Healing the Physical

***This is not medical advice***

When I get sick, I get really sick….I also get triggered.

My experiences in this lifetime have shown me that whenever I relax during physical illness and assume I will get better, my illness snowballs and worsens into something unmanageable. I have learned that being active in my own healing process is necessary.

I have spent the past (almost) 3 weeks sick with and recovering from Covid…it finally caught up with me and I was hit hard. It had a grip on me. During that time, I relied on family members, friends and practitioners to guide me and ensure that I continued to move in a healing direction. I want to share some of the things that helped me. This is not medical advice, I am simply sharing my journey. All of these herbs, remedies and protocols were used under the supervision of my naturopathic doctor. I do not recommend using any of the below without the supervision of a medical professional.

  1. Homeopathy - Homeopathy is always my #1 go to for everything. I work with a homeopathic consultant for acute illness. Did you know that the royal family uses homeopathy? There have been several remedies that have helped me at different stages of this illness. Once the illness has passed I will resume with my constitutional remedy to strengthen my constitution.

  • Gelsemium - CM

  • Bryonia - CM

  • Rhus Tox - 10M

  • Antimonium Tart - CM

  • Sulfur - 30c

2. Essential Oils - I have relied on a couple of powerful essential oils.

  • Oregano Oil - taken internally - 1 drop under the tongue

  • Thyme - Inhaled as a steam to support respiratory health

3. Herbs - The level of inflammation created by this illness has required quite a few anti-inflamatory herbs. Here are some that have helped me:

  • Turmeric - Capsule

  • Elderberry - Tea with honey

  • Berberine - Capsule

  • Quercetin - Capsule

  • Wild Cherry Bark with pine, honey and propolis

  • Ginger shots

  • Pneumo Complex (not for vegans)

3. Vitamins -

  • D - In liquid form in olive oil

  • C

  • Zinc

  • CoQ10

Additional Healing Protocols:

  • Hydrotherapy in the shower - turning the water temp from as hot as I can tolerate to as cold as I can tolerate

  • The Sock Trick - an old naturopathic remedy to help alleviate fever. Before bed: Soak your feet in hot water and a pair of cotton socks in ice water. After 5 minutes dry off your feet, drain excess water from the cotton socks and put them on your feet. Cover the ice cold cotton socks with wool socks and hop in bed. Leave the socks on all night.

  • Infrared Sauna - I am lucky to have access to a sauna and I have been spending 30 minutes a day in the sauna. The one day I skipped I noticed a significant increase in my congestion.

  • Heating pad on my back for some pretty intense back and hip pain

  • Walks, Prayers, Reiki and Rest

Needless to say, it has been a lot of work. I am emerging feeling like somewhat of a different person, which is usually the case of most illnesses for me. Looking back I know now that I needed a break. I had been working hard. I had unprocessed grief and emotion sitting in my lungs, which left me susceptible to infection. I also feel a sense of relief that I now have natural immunity as I prepare to depart for Italy.

I hope some of this info is helpful for anyone reading. This was my first bout with Covid and I know there is a lot more information now than there was initially. For that I feel very lucky. If you have any questions about anything please let me know. I can send referrals for practitioners and links to books and products that have helped me.

With love,

Caitlin
