Karma:  Definition, Recognition, Reconciliation, Response

There is an ocean of meaning around the word karma – an ancient spiritual concept.  Good karma or bad karma? What exactly does it mean? How can I change mine?

In this workshop we will break down the ancient concept of karma into everyday terms while discussing practical methods for altering one’s own karma.  Your teachers have extensive experience interacting with this energy through their own personal journeys and the experience gained through their client sessions.

Your desires and attachments to the experiences and situations of day-to-day life are major contributors to the evolution of your karma.  Your responses to any given situation have a cumulative karmic effect. These choices create opportunities for either an increase in suffering or the dissolution of karma allowing for more ease in your life.

Over the two days of the workshop, we will discuss the many nuances of the concept of karma.  To help guide you through this new information, we have divided the two days into four sections – Definition, Recognition, Reconciliation and Response.

Day 1:

Definition – In the first section of the class we will start by sharing the classic as well as our working definition of karma.  These definitions give us a common language to use throughout the class. We will review the Law of Karma and its three characteristics of intention, action and consequence. Our karma can contribute to persistent patterns of behavior. Our discussion will be followed by an activity where you will learn to identify your own patterns.

Recognition – Once you have identified your repeating patterns, you can start to work with your karma. A big concept in this section is that of the ‘karmic account’. Pattern recognition is facilitated through an understanding of the five aspects of a karmic account. We’ll discuss these in-depth giving examples. You’ll have an opportunity through activities to recognize and then put your patterns into your own account.

Day 2:

Reconciliation – This is where the healing starts. Once you have developed an awareness of your patterns, there are techniques you can use to release karmic energy. We will review ways to make amends for specific situations and to specific persons involved in the patterns you have placed in your karmic account. Please remember that none of this is about finger pointing or blame. It does mean taking responsibility and 100% ownership for your part.

Response –In this final section, you will learn to identify your personal karmic self-care tools. We will share methods to work with the energy of your thoughts, emotions, and actions.  When you consciously clear this energy you are no longer feeding the pattern of karmic accumulation.
